I
am a clinical psychologist who has practiced in Austin for over 25 years. I hope I can meet you where you are
and match my style to you and your goals for therapy. Methodology includes
psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, Jungian psychology, and mindfulness. Areas of expertise are depression, anxiety, personal
growth and development, relationships, parenting, dysfunctional family of
origin, dream analysis, alcohol and drug recovery, family members of
alcoholic/addict, panic disorder, spirituality and transitions.
I earned a PhD at the University of Houston in social psychology, and after a short career in public administration, re-specialized in counseling psychology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Early in my career I worked for 4 years exclusively with alcoholics/addicts and their families, and I have continued to stay up to date on chemical dependency treatment.
My life experiences and personal involvement with the 12 Steps, yoga, dream analysis, and eastern philosophy inform my practice.
I have been a widow since the mid-90s, and have been in a committed relationship for about the past six years. I am a mother to two and a grandmother to five.
DIRECTIONS: I am in Granada Hills, off 290 West,about 2 miles beyond the Y in Oak Hill. That puts me about 10 miles from Bee Cave, 13 miles from Dripping Springs, and 3 miles from Circle C. From the Y drive 2.1 miles to the red light at El Rey Blvd and turn left. El Rey is .4 miles after the red light at FM 1826. On El Rey drive .8 miles and turn left on San Juan Pass. I am in the house to your right on the corner. My office is in my home. It is the door to your left when you are on the front porch.

Curious about the first session?
My favorite quote for now:
TAO te CHING 33
Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.
Mastering others is strength;
mastering yourself is true power.
If you realize that you have enough,
you are truly rich.
If you stay in the center
and embrace death with your whole heart,
you will endure forever.
From my standpoint the first session is about two things: establishing the reason/reasons for therapy and seeing how well we can work together. The therapeutic relationship is so critical to the outcome of therapy, thus I'll be getting a sense of whether I am the right person for you to work with and you'll be getting a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me and could gain from the experience over time.
If you want to prepare for the session you could jot down any pertinent medical conditions, medications, and a rough timeline/history that covers any significant relationships, situations and/or events that you believe are relevant to your present situation. (We won't be able to go into a lot of detail; we'll paint a picture of your life with broad strokes, but it'll be a good start.) Also, you can think about what you hope to get from therapy. If you've thought about these things before hand and know - more or less - what you want to talk about we'll be able to maximize our time together. But don't worry if some of this seems fuzzy or confusing. My job is to help you clarify and understand, and it won't all happen in one session!
